Branding/Artwork Meeting

ALBUM ARTWORK MEETING

As mentioned on my PPP blog i was recently approached by a girl named Kirsty McQue asking if would be able to help her design some album artwork and other promotional material.

Recently i have worked on a day brief with Jamie Pudsey and i felt this album artwork brief would be very beneficial to us both. Jamie and i arranged a meeting with Kirsty and decided we would get some examples together to show her to see if we all had the same idea.

We also decided to come up with a few questions to ask her so we would get a good idea of what she actually wanted from us and the aesthetics and over all theme she was going for throughout her artwork & personal branding.

Questions / themes

- List of collateral for her branding / artwork.

Business Card, Facebook banner, Single cover artwork, logo, Posters, Flyers, Website,

- What are musical influences? Old and New?

Charlotte OC, Banks, London Grammar (sort of), Jessie Ware (older stuff), James Blake. Ficci, FKA Twigs, Lulu James, Capua Collective( leeds college of musc band / playing at LCA x LCM exhibition), Fish Go Deep (The cure and the cause song), Lykke Li, Submotion Orchestra, The XX.

- Could you name some art direction you like?

Look at Kimbra. Either likes dark and cold aesthetic and use of bright colours. Like the use of Pattern (Dimensions Festival)

- How would you describe your sound? 

Conceptually based song writing (not within the lyrics but the feel and ambience of the song), Concept for her last EP Self Karma was based on six degree of seperation (look at a review of the EP on her Facebook),

- How would you describe your audience?

Wants her music to be played at festivals (such as Dimensions / look up artist that have played at dimensions) - Festival Crowd

- How would you describe the direction you want to go in the future with your music?

Wants to come across Electronic / Floaty / Ambient / Ethereal

- How would you like to be portrayed with the artwork? What sort of image would you like to be portrayed?

Cool and edgy image/Use of feather as the main image involved in her artwork.

Jamie and I are both looking to showcase the art direction for in an exhibition combining LCA and LCM students on 3rd December.

She seemed enthusiastic about the exhibition and welcomed us to exhibiting the stuff for her.
However, she said that she wont have a ew single coming out until Jan/Feb 2015 so we wold have to redesign artwork for single in her latest EP; Falling, You and I and Nightfall.

After the meeting we had a closer look at what she already has existing.

These were examples for her album artwork and her cover photo for her Facebook. Jamie and i agreed how we can update her personal identity and develop on her branding at this stage Jamie and i plan to write a brief together then begin independent research before coming back together and begin development process. This is a great opportunity for Jamie and i and I'm looking forward to the outcomes for this brief.
