Secondary Magazine Research - Village Book Store

SECONDARY RESEARCH ( VILLAGE BOOK STORE)

MADE

http://www.villagebookstore.co.uk/products/made-quarterly-3/

MADE Quarterly is a publication that documents the workings of the modern maker, including but not limited to industrial design, architecture, fashion, interior design, photography and the culinary world.

I like the layouts used in this magazine and the title placement on top of the images. The magazine is consistent and i feel it has a newspaper feel to it. Having images throughout our magazine that are slightly faded is something that i feel would work for the style of magazine we are wanting to produce.

THE NEW ORDER

The New Order is a bi-annual publication heavily focused on culture, with fashion, art, music, film, food all amongst the main topics.

I like the use of photography images with the text central aligned underneath. This magazine has less text than the Made magazine although i think its relevant for this style magazine.

NOT TODAY

Not Today magazine focuses on the space between art and life, inviting those with passion and creativity in space to partake; what it really tries to convey is the relationship between space and people.

This was one of my favourite magazines i looked at when i was at the Village book store. I love the cover with the over laying piece of paper. Some of the double page spreads use half toned colour which works really well.

C-HEADS

C-HEADS Magazine is a Vienna/Berlin based publication which blends the mediums of photography, fashion, music and art to bring you a snapshot into youth culture.

C-heads magazine uses a lot of fashion images and breaks the grid with some of the layouts placing images in an unorganised way which works as a whole.I like the mix of full colour and black and white images also works.

I love the editorial design and over all aesthetics of these magazines. The village book store website is such a good source of research and i would like to take elements of these magazines to influence my own work.
