PRIMARY RESEARCH - KIEHLS
I first became interested in Kiehls brand when i saw some illustration work Kate moross had done for the brand. As i am proposing a skin care brand i wanted to get some primary research. When i was in Australia there was a large department store that stocked Kiehls brand so i decided to take some pictures although i can look at the brand on the website i wanted to see what the actual pop up store looked like and get a feel for the brand for some inspiration.
They have lots of different shapes and sizes and styles for the different categories within the brand which is unusual as most brands have a strong consistency throughout the products.
I really loved this light instillation for the name of the brand. This has got me thinking about making laser cutting some stock to create some signage for the name of my brand.
I like how they use hand rendered type with small illustrations and still minimal type on the bottles and displays.
URBAN OUTFITTERS
I was in urban outfitters and took a few pictures of some candles i found the packaging was particularly interesting. I really loved the patterns and the different use of colours kept the whole theme consistent.
As i am very interested in patterns i will take inspiration to think of how i could incorporate patterns into my skin care range. Still keeping it minimal and with a high end aesthetic.HARVEY NICHOLS
Today i went into Harvey Nichols for some primary research as i wanted my brand to be high end Harvey Nichols was the perfect place to gain some research as all the products stocked in there are expensive and not usually stocked in the high street.
SISLEY
I first looked at sisley they have a wide range of products and its originally a french brand. It is a family company and for three generations, the d’Ornano family has created and led businesses in the high-end cosmetic sector.
Sisley offers a complete range of products to meet the needs of all different skin types and address multiple skincare concerns, including makeup removal, hydration, anti-aging, sun protection and hair care.Sisley expertise combines an indepth knowledge of plants, their composition, and the effects these ingredients have on the way the skin works, with an understanding of the skin and its mechanisms.
I next looked at Chanel you can find Chanels products in some high street stores at its makeup can be reasoanably priced where some of its skin care is around 70 pounds.

The CHANEL cosmetics line makes a little bit of luxury accessible to everyone. Equally as chic and timeless as their fashions, CHANEL cosmetics products are known for their superior quality and innovative formulas. It all started with their original fragrance, CHANEL No. 5, and has grown into a complete beauty line including skin care, makeup, and a number of other perfumes. Their beauty line is about extravagance and indulgence; it was designed to give women the experience of luxury in their daily routine.

Acqua di Parma is an Italian lifestyle company that produces fragrances, candles, bathrobes and leather accessories. All of its ranges are produced exclusively in Italy and distributed in 43 countries. It was founded in 1916 in a small perfumer's laboratory in Parma. In 1993 the brand was revived by entrepreneurs Luca di Montezemolo. Although the brand isn't souly a skin care brand i wanted to have a look into the brand to get a feel for there online platforms and store ephemera as they are a high end brand.
This story begins with an accident and ends with a miracle. Half a century ago, aerospace physicist Dr. Max Huber suffered burns in a laboratory accident. Neither medicine nor science offered the benefits Huber desperately sought, and he began a personal quest to transform his skin. After 12 years and 6,000 experiments, Dr. Huber perfected the art of bio-fermentation. Something extraordinary was discovered - Crème de la Mer and it's nutrient-rich Miracle Broth™. Just as Dr. Huber hoped, skin appeared dramatically smoother and miraculously improved .
To this day, Crème de la Mer is still created using sea kelp, vitamins, minerals, essential oils and other natural ingredients that are fermented for three to four months.
This is the most expensive out of the four brands i looked at. I like the range of bottles and differently styles of packing across this brand. I took a sheet with a range of there products on which will help me when i am producing my fictional skin care brand.
